22.03.2017  - A weekend in Moldova

Not exactly breaking news as this trip took place already last autumn. Better late than never I guess!

My mother was visiting us in Romania and we drove together to Moldova to visit Inna's parents together. Moldova wasn't at its best in late autumn I think but it was nice to meet Inna's parents anyway.

The famous monastery of Orhei

There always seems to be a problem with our car when my mother comes for a visit and this time was no exception. Inna's father mentioned that there was a strange sound coming from one of the back tires, but I didn't think much about it at first. For some reason I decided to have it checked anyway and with the help of Inna's father we found the culprit and a new tire as well. The old tyre was in a really bad shape so the timing couldn't have been better!

The market that sold both new and used car parts was actually quite fascinating because I've never seen one like it before. There seemed to be a small booth for everything and anything even remotely related to cars. I think one could build a whole car there by purchasing the parts one by one :).

The landscape in Moldova was a bit uninteresting: huge flat areas with fields and vineyards, some small forests here and there and old buildings in bad shape. The time of the year certainly didn't do it any favors either. My mother had been in Moldova before and it still didn't become one of her favorite countries. There was nothing really wrong with Moldova but it just wasn't a very interesting travelling destination either.

The season was far gone but we found some tasty grapes the harvesters had missed!

Some plants still had their striking autumn colors on.

A Celtic cross :)?
